Trouble bleeding rear brakes

I'm in the process of replacing the font calipers and replacing the fluid in the brake system. After looking at the rear bleeder screw it looks like I need some sort of special tool to open the valve. My first thought is you need a hollow headed wrachet??? Does anyone know what tool I need and were to find it? I have standard line wrenches but there is no way they will work...

you can use a regular socket & ratchet. but it will be hard to tell when there is no air coming out. but if you bleed for a while and the peddle feels good , then i'm sure it will be bled just fine.

or just go buy an offset head wrench.

Socket works fine but the key is to have a piece of clear hose to go onto the bleeder once it's cracked loose. You can still close it with the tubing on it. Then you can see airbubbles. Put the other end in a coke bottle with the tip submerged in brake fluid. Once the bubbles are gone, you are done. Aggressive pedal pumping will cause bubbles too so go slowly if possible.

Checker, AutoZone or any auto parts store has the inverted wrench you need.

one thing to do, when your finished bleeding, is to thoroughly rinse ALL brake fluid off anything it gets on. just put the car at the end of your driveway(or where ever) and run the garden hose on it for at least 5 mins.

Just bled mine the other night, used an 8mm 1/4 drive socket w/ a 3/8 drive adapter so I could use the rachet. Once the bleeder is cracked I connected some clear hose and ran the line up near the top of the spring perch area and over a spring coil then back down into a clear glass with the hose submerged I figured this hose up thing might help keep air from getting back in the system and it worked fine. You can then slowly pump the pedal with your hand while looking under the car to see when all the air is gone.

Once you get it cracked open you can use some vice grips on the socket and run the hose through the hole in it.

Turn it by hand open and closed for bleeding.

When done sock it down a bit more with the wrench and the hose off.

Worked okay for me.

You need a thinwall device to fit in there too. My brake fitting wrench didn't fit in there.

You should go over to the regional/Pacific NW section and read on my trials w/bleeding my rear brakes. I finally used the Russel speed bleeders and a vucuum bleeding system. With the Russel stuff you dont have to tighten the bleeder valve quickly because it has a check ball. Hope that helps
