trunk lid

I just picked up a 87 GN and notice the sheet metal by the bolts that hold the trunk lid on was cracking. any ideas what would cause this?

GM's sheetmetal sucks.

Doors rip by the mirrors.

Hoods rip at the hinges.

I even have a rip at the door stricker.

maybe the holes for the trunk hinge bolt points were drilled a little off causing some stress and over time and age it ripped a little?

Trunk mount cracks

I have seen this many times. On my Cutlass and on my current 85GN and many junk yard G bodies.
I recently removed mine and gas welded a piece of scrap SS sheetmetal strap with two holes drilled to match.

Another idea I had was to drill and tap a third hole between the existing two to improve the integrity of the mounts.
