Today I went to open the trunk and the key would not turn. After playing with it for half an hour, finally worked. I removed the cylinder so I can replace it. I would like to keep it as close to original as possible so I don't want to install junk and I want to keep the same key I am using. Is it possible for me to purchase a cylinder and code it myself with the parts from the old one? If, so where can i get the cylinder from. I see acdelco part# D1456F sells cylinders but they come with new keys. I want to keep my old key. What is my best route? Maybe GM?

Just take your lock to a good locksmith in the area and they should be able to replace all the internals and give it back to you great working condition. I had a locksmith by my house they specialize in cars. they were able to re key my door locks got me new cyliders and gaskets all I did was R&R them.

or you can buy a new one from the parts store (in black even) and have it coded to your key.
