New to this forum, just picked up a 3500 mile 100% stock TTA.

On another subject, I was wondering has anyone ever transplanted one of these amazing motors into a Gen 2 Trans Am? I have a low mile 81 Turbo TA, I was thinking of pickling the stock motor and putting one of our motors in? Anyone ever done this, any vendors out there sell transplant kits or parts to help, anyone sell these motors in a crate with everything, or where can I get a used donor motor or car? I think the 81 Firebird could come with a 3.8 motor, so thinking it is possible, it sure would boost up the HP. The 301 is the last true Poncho motor, so I would like to keep it stock and healthy, but want to keep the car a turbo, but make it more fun to drive.....

ya it has been done.. I think the guy shows up over on TB's every now an then.. From Canada from what I remember

Why ruin one of those cars? There aren't too many around. At least not in my area. Some idiot had an all original formula turbo and put a 383 in it. The car was in the junkyard within 2 years:rolleyes:

Because the Pontiac 301 is a siamese-bored no power abortion of an engine. Pontiac made some great engines...the 301 wasn't one of them.

I think he said he's going to keep the original stuff to help keep the value of the car.

I to own a 81TTA, and was looking at installing a GN motor, but I decided to go with a Turbo LS instead.

Go to gnra.ca and look in the tech forum and then the cars for sale section. The thread is titled " not you average 81 turbo trans am" the is marc Labreque s car and it has a TA performance aluminum block turbo V6. Just an awsome car!!! I can't tell you how great it is, I saw it at the speed shop that did the motor transplant, words just aren't enough. Sorry no link, but totally worth your time looking it up.

Jarred.

We installed a GN drivetrain into a 1981 Turbo Trans AM and it turned out great! :)

The customer wanted to keep AC. No way you can do a downpipe on this car W/O removing the air box under the hood which is what was done.

A Vintage Air system was installed and we made new compressor brackets. The stock GN AC/alt bracket would not clear the upper control arm anyway.

The gas tank needed to be modified for the pump/hanger assembly so a new tank was purchased instead of taking a chance on the old one.

We even installed a boost gauge in the hood to replace the funky lights to indicate boost level. Dash gauges all worked.

The engine mount pads were easy to fabricate and driveline alignment was perfect.

A FAST system simplified engine management and wiring.

I love 2nd Gen Firebirds, and was elated to do this project! :D
