Has anyone ever tried to drop the trans from a TTA in their driveway? Im considering this option because I dont have a lift available at this time... I just want to know if my 24" jack stands will give me enough clearance to slide my trans and trans jack out from under the car......Will raising just the front of the car 24" be enough?

I have removed the trans from my WE4 several times with a jack similar to yours and there is just enough room. I know this isnt a TTA, but i think you should be able to do it.

Removal Tips

I doubt that you can get the trannie out on the jack but what I do is lower the trannie all the way down on the jack and then slip it off onto a heavy piece of long cardboard. That way you can pull the trannie out on the cardboard--the trannie is 18 1/2' from the bottom of the pan to the top of the trannie. Then when the trannie goes back in I use a couple of long 2X 4s and thick wood blocks to get it back on the jack.

One other trick is to grind or hacksaw the heads off two 3" X 3/8" bolts, screw those into the two lower holes finger tight on each side of the engine block and then slide the trannie in those last few inches using the "studs" as a guide. This really helps when you are working off the payment but I use this trick even when I'm using a lift.

The other "key" items I would recommend is a 36" extension and one of those universal joints--Snap On has gold plated ones--that only tilts 30 degrees--however, you can put duct tape around a standard "floppy" universal joint to make it stiffer. These two tools makes it way easier to remove and install the top bolts reaching from the rear of the trannie.

2 feet is plenty-
when you and a buddy get the trans down, slip it off the jack, and take the convertor off to allow you to move the tranny around easier-

then take the tranny off the jack, and start sliding the trans out from under the car-
if it wont clear the exhaust, just lift up on the tail shaft a little and the tranny should slide out the side of the car just fine-

this is why i suggested taking the convertor off earlier, so it wont fall off when you lift up on the tail shaft-
