Hey guys,

I'm a new member and in the market for a turb 3.8. I'm trying to decide between a GN and a TTA. I love the styling and everything about both of the cars but am not sure about which would be a better choice for me. Both are sleeperish and both can be made faster than my needs so maybe some insider experiences or opinions could help me make up my mind. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks again!

James

TTA is faster stock and can be made faster for less money. TTA has handling and braking. Some parts are very hard to come by for the TTA. Definately more of an overall performance car of the two.

GN is more of a comfortable cruising car. Very quick in the 1/4 mile but don't try to turn at those speeds. Very cool looking car and they stand out more than the TTA. (Although most people get them confused with a Monte Carlo) Not many cars that can hold 5 people and get the performace of a GN. More parts available. More options when buying. More expensive for a comparable GN compared to a TTA but you get the same added value when selling it on the other end.

It's true. Mod for mod, the TTA will be about .2 seconds and 2 to 4 mph quicker than a comparable T/R.

My mid 11 TR would be a low 11 TTA with similar mods.

Welp, the TTA is about .7 second quicker in the Quarater mile with both cars in stock form....Many TTA's are into the 11's with stock block, heads, downpipe and intercooler....The GN can't do that ;)

I think Turboscott's remarks are close to a fair analysis. Look at both cars, and buy the one you like to see and drive.

So far, the GN is a better investment, but we TTA owners are looking for that to change :fingers crossed: ;)

Its all about personal preference too. I have owned maybe 20 Regals (only two turbos) and five F-bodies (only 4th gen).

Do you anticipate having more than two people in the car at any given time? Do you like to keep stuff in the glove box? Will you need a trunk?

If your answer to any of the above was yes then buy a GN. Third gen TA's dont have a glove box, have a VERY small back seat, and the trunk is more like a place to hold a case of soda.

Also, if your interested, I got a 96 SS for sale. :D

Thank you very much for your replies. I'm leaning towards the TTA due to its advantages in the performance category. From the minimal performance to the improved aerodynamics, braking, and handling all sound great. I won't be driving it terribly often after the summer either so room for five isn't a huge concern. Now the problem is finding a low mileage TTA somewhere near me for the right price. ;)

Thanks again

SHHHHH!! Don't tell my GN that!

Another concern I have is if someone my height (6'3") can fit comfortably. Sadly I haven't had a chance to sit in either yet so just trying to get an idea of the interior space.

That's actually one of the reasons I liked the GN in the first place. I'm 6'3" and was about 330 when I first started looking (I'm working on getting that down, you know, to make the car faster) and the car is pretty comfortable for me. The seats aren't the best I've ever been in but there's more than enough room. Hip room is great; never had a headroom problem in a HT or T-Top, never driven an astroroof car though. Pedals are situated in a comfortable position. Shifter is never in the way. Seat has good adjustment (mine is power) and wheel tilts so you should be able to find a comforable driving position no matter where you like to be in relation to everything.

Never been in a TTA though.

The TTA's are kinda tight (I'm 6' 220 pounds) however the seats are real comfortable/supportive none the less. On another note, in 1 summer (bolt on parts) I made my TTA run as fast as my GN that for 12 years I wrenched and spent a bank of $$$ on, and it will stop in 1/2 the distance of my GN at the same speed. The TTA's are IMO everything the TR's should have been as far as performance is concerned....braking, handling, gauges, aerodynamics, acceleration etc... However, I still love the look of a G body! I sold my GN to buy my TTA, so right now I'm kinda partial to the TTA's. If your going to buy a TTA, do it now while the market is soft on them. Before too long the market should start to raise like it is on the TR's and you'll be paying a lot more.
One good thing about the TTA's is that there is a bunch of F body parts out there that will work on the TTA. Good luck.

BTW, what is your top dollar for a car? I'll keep my eyes open around here where they seem to pop up all of the time....strange that this part of the the US. has so many TR's and TTA's???

I am 6'4" 205 LBS and drive f-bodies exclusively right now. I fit, but its sort of a pain getting out. Its a HUGE pain to get in if some a$$ parked on your door and you can only open the door a few inches. There were times I thought I was going to twist my foot backwards trying to slip into my car. The GN also has big doors but it sits a bit higher making it a bit easier to get in and out of.

Its a good time to buy a TTA now....

You'll see mine on eBay in a few months....We're building a new house in a year or so, and, I'm going to put that TTA money in a new kitchen (that will insure a pile of money left over for my new garage ;) )

I recommend you sit in a TTA before you buy one :) The seats were the tie breaker when I bought mine  I'm an average sized man, and the seats fit me purrrrfectly!

the 31K mile car for $18K is RIDICULOUS MONEY. The other one isn't a bad deal depending on condition.

Really? I havent priced out TTA's so I dont really know. That one offers financing which is why I put the link up there. Doing a search for GN's they seem to be priced about the same, anywhere from $25,000 on down to $6,000.

Wow. Thanks for all the quick responses to help a noob. That TTA with the black rims for $9k is EXACTLY what I'd be looking for depending on the condition. About $11k-$12k is gonna be my limit. Does anyone wknow where the 201 area code is? I like the idea of handling and have been reading and noticed how horible the TR brakes are. Some aftermarket F body stuff should be able to tighten up the suspension and make it about perfect. Now just gotta check up on my insurance rate difference...
