which head bolts should i use? ARP's or factory TTY's? i read TTY's only are good to about 22 lbs. is this always true or just an average? also do you use any kind of sealant on headbolts? since the ARP's require a retorque do you pull it all the way out and put new sealant on (if needed) and then retorque it or do you just loosen it up and retorque it down?

I would ONLY use ARP's! You just can't do any better, and,,, they are reusable. You should always use ARP moly thread lube with them, (which is usually included in the package), and torque them to the specs suggested with whatever head gasket you choose to use. You should pay close attention to the torque sequence and follow the MFR suggested pattern. Fel-Pro is good about providing that info with their gaskets for particular apps.
Torque in at least three stages, ie, if it calls for 85 lbs of tq, then pull them each down to 30, 60, then 85. Four stages is even better, but people tend to be a bit lazy and have a hard enough time with the discipline to go three steps.
I cannot stress enough how important proper torquing is, with immaculately clean surfaces and bolt holes, and use of the proper thread lubricant. Torque will be much less accurate if you only use something like motor oil or the likes as your thread lube.
Do it right the first time, and you won't be doing it again, and again, and....

Also, the majority of any pro engine builders will tell you to retorque them after a heat cycle has been run, or before you go try to load the cylinders up with max boost levels. This is a pain in the butt, yet it is some of the best spent time you can apply when trying to prevent future hg failure. I cannot stress it enough!

Turbo Buicks,

ARP is the way to got. Search under a thread called "headbolt retorquing". Here are some facts:

All head bolts go into the water jacket.
All therefore require ARP teflon sealer on the threads, the ARP moly lube goes between the washers and the head and washer and the bolt head.
The teflon sealer stays plyable for the retorque sequence since the bolts are only loosened a 1/4 turn.
The torque sequence, final values and number of sequences varyies with the heads and gaskets used. Read the instructions.

I use ARP studs, exclusively. There are several posts available that I've made as to how to install them, and the reasons to do it that way, not to mention how successful that method has been. Good luck.
