How rare is this engine? I thought all them were 3.8L?

... I thought all them were 3.8L?
Correct. I'm thinking someone transferred a 3.8 draw-thru turbo intake assembly to a 684-block based naturally aspirated 4.1. I'd conclude the seller is some sort of builder/fabricator with the pic's backgrounds showing possibly a tube chassis / vette body, a full frame to something, a '30s roadster project, and maybe a '66 mustang body next to the '30s roadster project.

The one pic showing the rear of the engine doesn't have enough resolution to zoom in to attempt to read the foundry mark for the block casting date. However, the pic showing the head casting info shows a ...6298 head with date code 1321 which I believe translates to the 132nd day of 1981. Those 25506298 head castings were only used 80-81 model years.

the 484 block was used 80-84 as I recall. GM division lookup showed Buick had NA 4.1 engine option beginning in '80 with Electra & LeSabre models. Riviera got a NA 4.1 for '81. Regal got a NA 4.1 for '82.

Olds began use of the NA 4.1 in '81 for the 98 & Toronado models. Pontiac added the NA 4.1 option in '82 for the Bonneville and Grand Prix models.

Caddy used the ...0044 4.1 casting in their 80-82 models beginning with Deville & Fleetwood in '80. '81 added El Dorado & Seville models. All were naturally aspirated.

Those draw-thru intakes should have a casting date on them at the top of the 2 / 4 intake runners where the turbo connects. Looks like one pic has a standard tip screwdriver pointing towards that, but can't read it. For '82 3.8 draw-thru turbo engines, the intake date code was formatted like the cylinder head date code (DDDY) rather than a circle like stamp with the last two digits of year and raised dots (for the month) around the perimeter as shown for this intake and similar to how the date code stamping was done on the water pumps.

Someone just put together a draw-thru turbo 4.1 like someone will use a 86-87 intake on a 4.1 block today.

That's what it looks like. The 4.1 used in the actual pace cars weren't turbocharged. All the rest were 3.8's. Thanks for the info.
