WE JUST BOUGHT A 1987 GN . IT HAS A TURBO 400 TRANSMISSION WITH A REVERSE MANUAL SHIFTER BODY AND A HURST RATCHET SHIFTER . THE RATCHET SHIFTER IS WORN OUT . CAN WE INSTALL A STOCK GN SHIFTER ?

YOU CAN BUT YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO USE IT AS IF IT WERE A RATCHET STYLE SHIFTER

AND WHY DO YOU TYPE WITH CAPS LOCK ON?

Get the Quick siler shifter from B&M!!!!!!

works GREAT~!!!!!!
x2

you could use a stock shifter but youll still have to shift by pulling back1-2 2-3 and then back when you stop
bweavy (gbodyparts.com) sells a selector gate for using a th400 and the stock shifter but its not made for RMVB and isnt going to be anywhere near as precise or easy to shift as the quicksilver . another issue with stock is the stock cable wont last long shifting 3-2 as its pushing the thin cable forwrd with no support when its in 3rd , the B+M comes with a new cable that will last shift after shift without breaking

SHOULD WE CHANGE OUT THE REVERSE VALVE BODY ? THE CAR HAS BEEN BUILT UP QUITE A BIT . WE ARE STILL TRYING TO PIECE IT ALL TOGETHER BUT FIRST THING IS TO GET IT SMOOTH SHIFTING DOWN THE ROAD . THE RATCHET IS SHOT AND I'M AFRAID TO REALLY GET INTO IT AND BURN SOMETHING UP . WE ARE UP FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS ! @KIDGLOK . . . CAPITAL LETTERS ARE JUST KINDA SHARP ! MAKES MY WIFE MAD TOO !

I could be mistaken, but aren't there some sheetmetal brackets that the factory shifter bolts to? If so, they probably got cut out to install the rachet shifter. Gbody parts could probably supply he brackets if needed also.

You could always have b&m rebuild the shifter to tighten it up some. You could switch back to an auto shift valvebody, but you'll have to figure out what is in there now. There are lots of different ways it could have been converted to convert to manual shift. Does it have a transbrake?

WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN TOO FAR INTO THE TRANS YET . BASICALLY WANNA GET THAT DARN RATCHET OUTTA THERE ! JUST GETTING SOME IDEAS BEFORE WE GO TO THE SHOP . IT DOES NOT HAVE A TRANS BRAKE

I use the factory shifter with the gbodyparts gate. I removed my column linkage entirely so that it has very little resistance when shifting (not trying to move 5 lbs of bars when shifting gears). I think that this would prolong the life of the shifter cable as well. It works well, and looks cool of course (if you like the stock look). Finding first gear can be a bit of a challenge for some people that have driven the car, since N,1 and 2 are all on the same gate. its kinda like finding neutral on a motorcycle.

If I wanted to spend money on it, I'd go to a quicksilver or a TCI Outlaw with the factory plate. If I was going hardcore I'd get a cheetah.

I really like the RMVB with the fixed line pressure. I feel like I am not going to kill clutches as fast at part throttle. Plus mine has a brake if I need it.
