Hello i have an 87 gn but my queston is for another g-body tranny swap(78 malibuw/big block) the car will be street driven. Ireally wnat the overdrive trans. I have seen 700r-4's that can handle 600hp or more. However i see the turbo cars going extremely fast with the t200's??? what is the perf handling/limits of a properly built 200vs 700? And what were the first gear ratio differences??? thanks

First the easy one. The 200-4R has 2.78, 1.57 for 1st & 2nd respectively. The 700-R4 has 3.06, 1.63. That steep drop between gears on the 700-R4 isn't exactly ideal.

As far as which transmission can be built to handle more power, well that's a can of worms. The 200-4R, equipped with the newly developed hard parts such as Bruce's will most likely do better than a 700. There are some enhancements being sold/developed for the 700-R4 as well though like input shafts, output shafts, servos, sun bells, etc. to address the shotcomings with that unit (and it's 4L60E variant.)
