I don't recall even a mule from GM like that, but, Smokey or Thawley (?) built some fast Citations, and one could have easily been a turbo.

hahaha i cant even look at one of those cars with out laughing...

we had one when i was really young and it caught on fire while going to my grandparents...... we pulled over and my dad let it burn for a while then put it out................ he hated that car with a passion!

you should see the vvein in his neck come out when he talks about it.

I have that same model too lol.. I also had an 80 Citation. was a good car actually. Was a factory 6 cly 4 speed manual trans :) NO turbos were factory made.

I almost bought a new Citation

I walked into Reedman Chevrolet back in April 1984 and had my mind set on a 1984 Monte SS. Mind you Reedman is HUGE, maybe the biggest Chevy store on the East Coast. I figured if anybody had a Monte SS in stock, they would. I was really set on buying a car that day. No dice. I would have to order the car if I wanted one.

As I'm strolling around the showroom I see a Maroon X-11 hatchback. I was tempted to get the X-11 and be on my way but my gut told me to order the Monte. I filled out the order form and patiently awaited the arrival of a new 1984 Blue SS. I took delivery in July of that year. BTW, the price for both cars was $12,800 give or take a few bucks. One thing that stuck out on the Citation was the funky Vertical radio.

In hindsight, I think I made a good decision even though I didn't keep it for long. Traded the Monte in on an '86 GN.

We don't even see those citations up here cause they all rusted away.

I remember a kid next door had the X-11. Him, his dad & brother were always working on it till the cancer took over & it looked like Fred flintstones car:D

I had that exact model in 5th grade. And, no, there was never a factory turbo Citation.

It must have been a slow time for the model car companies back then when there was really no exciting cars to model?

So then this is a made up beast..

Yes that model kit is based on a real life concept car. Its from around 1980-81. Pick up a copy of the old Chevrolet Power Book, I think its the 4th or 5th edition and there is a picture on the outside back cover. There is also a picture of a 1980 Corvette with a digital fuel injected turbo SBC with it. I cant remember but I think HOTROD magazine ran an article on it. The specifics on the V660( its real name) are all aluminum 60 degree V-6 with large valve aluminum heads, digital fuel injection with a turbo. IMO GM was way ahead in the technology dept compared to Ford and Chrysler(and even the imports).

FWIW Dept. The best Citation if you want to look at from a collectors point of view would be the 85 X-11 for the following reasons:
Only year for port EFI.
Low production( figures unknown but X-body sales pretty much ran out steam by the final model year)
Only year radio was horizontal.
Optional 3.65 final drive, up till then 3.32 was standard. This is for the 4 speed version only.
Only available on the hatchback.
14" alloy wheels.
And last but not least a fiberglass hood!

Doesn't that just make you want to go right out and try to find one?

No! :D

For GM, this was the beginning of dark ages that brought front-wheel drive to the masses.

I think the X-11 was sort of scarce even when they were new. I can't remember the last time I even saw a regular Citation/Citation II in running condition.

I bet even fewer people remember the other X-body siblings:
- Buick Skylark Sport Coupe & T-Type
- Olds Omega ES
- Pontiac Phoenix SJ & SE

When I was 11, a friends mother took 3 of us kids to see "Caveman" with Ringo Starr and Shelly Long. We rode in a Phoenix "X" sedan.

make a ricer outa one!!

How about big bling-bling wheels with a loud muffler tip and a 3-foot wing? Visualize it.
I don't know why but this post reminded me of an AMC Pacer that I saw a couple of days ago on my way to work. It was in great shape and it had a "Carter/Mondale" sticker on the bumper! :)

I knew a guy with an X11 back in about 1986 or so - I ran him with my '78 200sx, which would do about 16.25 in the 1/4, and he beat me by about 2.5 car lengths. I don't know if he was stock or not, but it wasn't REAL slow.
