Turbo hood req'd for 84+ TR's?

I know the hood bulge is req'd for the Carb'd Turbo's, but when they went SFI (hot air or IC'd) did they retain the bulge in the hood for purely design keepsake, or is it functional?

I'm looking at getting a 84/5 SFI 3.8L for my wifes Mercedes, and the NA Carb set-up barely clears the hood, will I have issues with the Turbo set-up........the wife doesn't want ANYTHING showing, no scoop, cowl ind., or hood bulges.....

the hood is just for looks, no matter what year.

On the Carb'd turbo cars there is a 'cut-out' in the bracing, under the bulge for the red (or chrome?) carb topper that leads down to the filter......I've never been 'under the hood' of one while the hood was closed to see the clearance issues, but the cut out is DEFINITLY the exact same shape as the carb topper.
