Gentlemen,
In doing research I feel that most everyone seems to agree that the TA-49 is the best turbo for street manners as well as performance without a high stall converter. Sort of the best of both worlds. Now, can I please get some inputs for the next 2 best turbos for the same application? No loss of street manners, good performance, no more lag than stock, etc. Your inputs are appreciated! - BB:p

I would look at a 44 as well.

With your 2600 stall the 51 would work too as mine is okay with the D5 and V4 and BSTC.

Depends on what you want to do with it combo. wise, how many further upgrades do you plan on?

1) te-44

2) pt-51

3) or if you want REALLY fast spool a nice 4 bolt PT-88 would be a good choice. excellent street manners. i run twin pt-88's on my bone stock GN. J/K LOL:D

P.S. Tom, when you gonna make it up to the car show at burger king on saturdays at US 19 and 110th street ??? i was there a couple weeks ago and talked to John (Red Regal T) and some other guys who are on the board. everybodys cool there:) ill try to go this Saturday b/c i dont work but im not sure ill be in town but i think i will be:) email me if you need directions to the show:)

A TE44 is the same turbo as a TA49, but with a none detachable inlet bell (not stock appearing). The intermediate step between a TE44/TA49 and A PTE51 would be a TE44/TA49 with a PTE exhaust housing. It will have a little more lag with the stock converter than TE44/TA49's with a garrett exhaust housing, but make a little more top end HP.

actually the te 51 and te 44 are the same housings but different turbine wheel... ta49 and te44 are same wheels different housings

yea im planning to be there..:)

sorry thought i wrote you back....been so busy cant keep track of myself...i'll hit you back soon ...today if i get time..:D

Yes, but, technically, only a PTE44 or a TE44 "with a Precision housing" would have the same exhaust housing as a PTE51. There are still lots of older TE44's out there with the Garrett exhaust housing still on them. Garrett housings have become scarce lately and any TE44 built today would likely have a precision housing on it.

i gotta garrett housing on my LT70-1 turbo ...looks funny next to the huge compressor housing but it seems to work good.

im not too sure that a John Craig 51 would come with precision housing unless you ask for it but i could be wrong on that.

Amazing!!!

Everyone in one form or another has gone with the 44.

So we have the 49, the 44.........and a 51??

Here's where I would like to know why 3?
