I have one stock and one aftremarket turbo (ta-62) and like to rebuild both by my self but seems that every turbo shop I have sent email about rebuild kit dont like me to do that and get no response. As long as I am asking questions about them rebuilding it everything is ok and prices vary---funny..
I would sure like to hear from people that have done rebuild on their own turbos which to me does not look like a big job and where did they got their seals and bearings ..Thanks

kit

Yup you were correct - ebay has rebuild kits now it is matter of time to find the correct one .Crying shame that we cannot rely on shops that allready know buicks and buick turbos to sell us one ..

I did my own. As I see it, it is pretty straightforward except for 2 issues:

1. Bearing sizes. If your shaft and housing are in good shape, then just get standard size bearings. If your shaft needs turning, or the housing needs machining, you will have to get them machined, and then get the corresponding sized bearings (under or oversized) .

2. Balance. I recommend this. I had a local diesel place balance mine ($30). You could mark everything and reassemble it but balance is pretty cheap so why not.

I opted for the larger thrust bearing which will require you to drill and tap 2 small screw holes. But most likely an aftermarket turbo will already have that.

Nothing to it, have fun !!

Thanks Scot -it appears that this is little bit better site then any other when it comes to turbos-- I just sent them an email so we shall see how well they respond..

I second that, Scott.

GPopShop is a great place.
I've gotten a couple of their kits now.
Very complete kits, great prices (IMO) and excellent phone communications!
