Hey, I know this has probaly been asked before, but what is a good upgrade for the hotairs? I am gonna be upgrading my injectors and turbo off of my 87, and the injectors I want to transplant them to my almost stock 85 after I get them cleaned and flowed. They are 40 lbers, so what turbo would be a good match for this setup? I know I will have to get a chip and all, I might even upgrade the ECM while I am at it. My goal is the to have the ability to smoke the local Pustangs and similar rides, I just dont want to spend too much. Thanks.

I would try to find a used TA33C turbo. It uses the stock hot air turbo housing but flows double the cfm. It should be close to a TE49. A new one from Limit will cost about $930. You will probably have to upgrade the 87ECM in order to get a chip burned for the 40lbs inj. I would call Eric at Turbotweek on this issue. Brad

Ta33 flows 700cfm good for 450hp larger wheel stuffed into a smaller less efficeint compressor housing (more heat) especially on a hot air. Ta49 flows 800cfm good for 545hp larger more efficeint compressor housing (less heat). Not trying to make a sales pitch but the facts are the facts I'd take a good used 49 over a same condition 33 anyday. You should do the research yourself before taking the advice of some misinformed members of this board.

Why not run your stock '87 turbo with the 40#er's on your '85. The stock '87 and ta49 flow close to each other.......only when your making big boost numbers will you notice the difference:

While your at it port the intake out & port the exhaust elbow out. Maybe find a used ATR downpipe for it. Help the turbo flow some. You should be able to use your chip for the 40#er's in the '85, if you switch over to the '87 ecm, maf, mat. -Nick.

Again making useless ASSUMPTIONS always makes an "A**" out of me and you. A stock 87 turbo flows the same as a ta49 ? Not !!! about a 50-60 hp difference above 20psi. Why go through all the trouble of upgrading the exhaust, injectors and etc just to put a stocker back on. Also the 86-87 turbo is not a direct bolt on for the hot airs.

The TA49 is a great turbo and will match those injectors well. Only problem is on a hotair it's not a bolt on. It's simple but you have to adapt the different outlet of the "TA" 87 style turbo to the hotair intake. If you go with an aftermarket intercooler the TA49 is a bolton

Ya, I consider above 20psi to be making big boost numbers. I didn't say there was absolutly without a doubt no ******* difference
He also said he didn't want to spend much, so why not recycle

Thanks for all your responses, I was looking into not spending so much now, so I might do the old 87 turbo in there until I get some more cash.
