im trying to clean the intake side of my stock 85' GN turbo because of some oil that got in there due to a backed up PCV system. i removed the (4) 10mm bolts that seemed to hold the intake side to the cneter of the turbo, and i also removed the 2 bolts that held the wastegate solenoid. however, even after some gentle prybar use, the intake side of the turbo wont budge

how do i get it apart? do i have to loosen the bolt that seems to hold the inlet turbine on? thanks in advance

compressor housing

I assume you have the turbo off the car. If i recall, the compressor housing has six bolts total, sounds like you have them out, does the housing rotate freely at all? If not you may have to try to spin it free. Keep track of where the housing is in relation to the part it bolts to. you might have to gently bump the housing in a counterclockwise motion where the turbo to intake adapter plugs into it, but make sure the adapter is out first. A tap with a rubber mallet may do the trick.

hey Tip....The turbine wheel has to come off in order for the housing to come off. If the wheel is still on, that housing is going no-where. As cool84 stated in your other post, if there is oil in the compressor housing, it will just blow out after a few minutes of runtime. No Need to gut it and wipe it down. If you damage the fins at all, you'll be in a heap of trouble. If any damage happens, that is a whole new turbo you'll be looking to buy. I'd say put it back together, and run it out. May smoke a little, but not a lot. If you keep running it and more smoke blows through, then you may have damaged the seals. I ran into that problem with my very first turbo...Four Turbo's later, I decided to go brand new, and let someone else handle the hard work!!!
