Has anyone tried to use this wastegate on an engine running the smallest spring Turbonetics has which I think is somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-5lbs with success?

I've got a combination I've been trying to work the bugs out on the Dyno and I am not getting the results I expect from this wastegate. I want to tune starting at around 4psi and work my way up. The only problem is I can't seem to control my boost level. It consistently comes on @ 3 lbs and then as I move throught the RPM range, boost creeps.

I am wondering if this wastegate size can flow / bleed enough exhaust energy off to allow boost levels as low as 3 - 4 lbs.

I am using a 4.5 liter combination, any thoughts or assistance. Other things to consider might be the free flowing exhaust of the dyno.

Called Turbonetics for assistance and I was very disappointed with the comment the Racegate can handle 900hp. What does that have to do with it's ability to control boost down to levels of 3-5lbs.

I don't believe

You will ever get the boost that low. I have wired my stock type wastegate open and it will still make 10-12 PSI.

disagreement

I disagree. I beliece the racegate is substantially larger than the stock gate. Thanks for thw input

Take a weak transmission accumulator spring and use that in there. I doubt you will get it low without it blowing open at higer rpm from the backpressure.

I agree, you will not get the boost to maintain that low even with no spring.
Its gonna creep to the point that it will bleed off.The valve in that wastegate is like 1 3/4" or so.You are essentially trying to run your entire exhaust thru the wastegate in order to spin the turbo slow enough to maintain 4#s

on a side not you really dont need to start tuning at 4#s if you have a good tuner.

You've got to learn somewhere

Thanks for the feedback, the plan is to take what I have learned up to date and expand on it. I am doing the initial tuning.

Found the problem with the wastegate, somehow the nut compressing the diaphram between the two washers had become lose. Once tightened I was able to run 3.9 lbs consistently with out issue. Which is close enough to what I needed.

Anyone know how post a log file from FAST?
