Ok, I will be getting a 84 turbo motor that used to be mine back, so I'm asking what needs to be done to use it in a 86-87 application, the turbo drain will go either in to the oil pan or possibibly the fuel pump block off plate,
what other goodies if any need to be done, thanks. The intake and stuff from stock 87 should work.

Bud, there's more than meets the eyes...Ur better off buying a complete '87 engine. Believe me u don't wanna do this. It's too expensive this way. Way too many things to change & buy. My $.02. Good luck if u do so.

if you got the long block your good. just switch the intake and all the front accessories and your 90% there. coil pack headers you know the works but if you got all that no big deal.

I will have the longblock, is there any reason that the 86-87 intake would not bolt on and all the other things, maybe I'm missing something here, but I do have a lot of extra 87 parts, so that is not a problem, anyone out there done this before, I'm sure their is and can chime in.

the block is the same so to speak. intake heads headers brackets trans everything bolts up the same doesnt matter if its a 84 or a 87 block

I've done it. I'm currently using my 84 block that had a complete rebuild before the conversion to the 87 setup.
Block was drilled and tapped for the oil return.
As someone said there is more to it than the obvious
Lot of little stuff
I bought a 87 T rust bucket, took what I needed then parted the car
Still have the 87 motor and tranny as a spare.

if it a 84 engine with all the 87 stuff ie intake and what not and hes putting it in a 86-87 car then there isnt anything thats a issue. now if he was taking this motor with all the 87 stuff and putting it in a 84-85 then there is alot of small stuff.

Your right, Maybe I read it wrong.
Putting a 84 motor into 87 car, no big deal
He needs to tell us if it's a 86/87 car.

i guess the way i read the first post is he had a 86-87 and wanted to use a 84 block for it.

He hasn't said anything about a car/year in his post, He only mentions about converting an '84 motor to '87 specs. That's why he said he had alot of '87parts to convert it. I still think there will be some if not pretty much parts missing 4 the conversion. That's what I understood...probably can be more specific. BTW it's the engine tech area.

Hey ronbuick,

Unfortunately, I can;t tell ya anything about the conversion, but i do have a bit of advice. You may want to post this question in the Hot Air section as well. There are a few guys over there who have gone down that path before, and could tell ya all the details you need to know. If you've already done this or soemthing, my bad. If not, the guys who frequent that section really know their hot air stuff! Best of luck in your conversion!!

Yes, this will be a spare motor for my 87 T, that is the reason for the questions, I'm getting back my old 84 motor and trans that I sold about 15 years ago when I wrecked my 84 T-type, I sold it to a co-worker of my wife, he had installed it into a S-10 Blazer, but has since installed a small block, also I will be selling off all the 84 stuff I do not need that cannot be used for my 87, I will be getting the complete motor and trans.
