Are the TV cables the same for all 200R4's and how hard are they to change out in the car?

TIA!

No they are not and yes they can be a pain in the asss!

Just replaced mine. Wasn't that bad for me. After removal of the old one I hooked the carb part in first, DID NOT CONNECT TO CARB. Then underneath you have to be sure to "hook" the tranny connection to the bent connection on the tranny. The toughtest part is adjusting the detent. Unfortunately you have to drive it to do this. If it is not shifting correctly all you do is push the brass looking button down and pull out the detent a little at a time until it shifts properly.

Good luck with it. Trial and error unfortunately.

TV cable adj/install

Just fixed a "humongus oil leak" for someone that had replaced the cable.. [At least the underside of the car won't rust anytime soon]..
Seems as tho the grommet was fubar and it was pushed into the tranny when the new cable was put on..DUH!! This required that the pan be taken off.

The cable is installed by:
Putting the new grommet into the trans.. Do NOT put it on the cable hsg. Add a smear of "sneaky cream" to the grommet ID.
Install the top end into the brkt.. Do not hook to TB yet.
Pull the cable slack down to the tranny end.. hook the "Z" into the cable and have someone pull up on the TB end. This will pull the "Z" hook and the end of the cable up into the hsg, thus preventing it from coming unhooked.
Slip the cable hsg end down into the tranny and install the lock screw. [10MM wrench, I think.]

Up top, hook up to the TB and then release the lock, push the cable hsg ALL the way toward the firewall.
W/ the floor mat OUT, press the throttle to the floor. The cable hsg will ratchet out.

Check for WOT and then check TPS settings.
If the cable is holding the throttle at < than WOT, move the cable hsg out a click or two. [I do this by opening the Tb by hand.] Reset the TPS if necessary.

Drive the car. Shift too hard? Move the cable out 1-2 clicks and try again. Too soft? Back it in a clik or two.

Back to huggin my T-400!!!:D :D

Thanks, guys!

This is for my son's '85 MCSS (200R4). We just put in a 385" stroker motor and the cable adjustment "teeth" are worn enough so it won't hold the adjustment - it shifts soft and early.
