I have two basic questions. First because this is what got me started on the whole topic tonight. How much boost should I have in a stock 84 GN, and can you trust the digital boost systems put in by Buick cause I am only reading ~ 8lbs of boost.

Second, Because my car has been running really rough (been away at college) How much would a complete conversion to an intercooled engine be and is it worth while?

ok for the first question you can never trust that digital boost gauge. you need to get a good aftermarket boost gauge and put it on the car. stock should be around 15psi or so. and for the second question it will cost around a couple thousand to get a conversion going. look at ttype tim he has done it. its alot of work but its worth it in the long run.

Ok a couple questions with the conversion... Will it ulitimatly decrease the value of the car I know that there were 2000 GNs in 84, but I really like the idea of an intercooled car. What is the easiest way to go about an intercooled car? complete engine/turbo/intercooler swap out?
Second I have an aftermarket boost guage but I havent installed it yet. I have been working on my Masters degree in college and I havent had time for anything, what is the easist way to install a boost guage to test what kind of psi I am getting?.

There is a brass plug in the intake manifold, behind the water temp sensor- tie your boost gauge line into that port and run to the gauge- wherever you locate gauge...most would install on a-pillar

And then read the "sticky" section completly!!

Easiest way...

Spearco intercooler kit

If you have mechanical skills you can fab up something yourself... :D

Value? These cars aren't worth much... :)

IMHO ;) ;

What is all comes down to is; Time and $$
The "Easiest way to go IC'd" is to sell the 84 and purchase an IC'd car.;)
If you "think" you “don't have time now”, just wait till you start the conversion.
Now, if "time" is an issue, you can always pay someone to convert the car for you.

If you want an "IC'd" car just for the sake of owning "an IC'd car", you need to sell the 84 and buy an "IC'd car".
If you are trying to get to a performance level, you really need to establish a goal, stick to it, and balance your goal with time, $$$$ and personal skill set.

There are countless threads on this IC subject.
Oh, not sure if you talked to, or have been hanging around some of our IC'd brothers, but ...........
The fact that they could not get a HA car in the 12's does not mean it can't be done.
An IC'd car, converted or not, will not automatically run 12's.

As far as "value" of the car? It really depends on who you ask.
Best of luck. :D
