1) the ASTG says the rear carrier assembly (4 small gears) should have .009 to .027" end play. My set has from .003 to .009. They feel fine, just not alot of play in them - Is this a failure?

And

2) Is the Clutch Apply Ring split like a snap ring? Mine has about a one inch gap that closes all the way until the ends touch when it is installed. The diagram in the ASTG has a dark spot at the 12 o'clock position and it is not clear if this is the gap.

Thank You All for the answers and help you have been providing!

Yes, that is normal. As for the 12 o'clock position, it doesn't matter where you put the gap. NONE at all! Just remember to install the thin snap ring in the case BEFORE you install the center support/low clutch housing. Cannot tell you how many calls I get saying " I got this thin snap ring leftover. Where does it go?" It is the Most often the piece that gets left out.It is actually the rest for the support to set on so it doesn't eat into the aluminum case.

Thanks Bruce.

I already ordered a new clutch apply ring:o it so looked like a broken part and I am still looking to find a reason for my trans failure.

Thanks for the heads-up on the snap ring. It looks like clutches go in, then #647, Spacer, Housing to Case, goes in, then the Lo-Rev housing, then another Snap ring #644, with the bevel side away from the Housing.

Back to the garage,
