Anybody know if it is necessary to change the stock U-Joints to some stronger ones when running a TB? Would not be pretty to loose the Joints at 10 lbs boost or in the middle of the track even with a loop.

I wouldn't worry about them...highly doubt you will snap a U-joint with 10 PSI launch...they seem to be able to take a lot of abuse and I'd be more concerned that the tranny is set up to handle transbrake launches...

I read a thread a while back about people breaking their stock axles before the u-joints.....

I do have brand new Moser axles with 1/2 3" studs and rebuilt G80 8.5 (clutches Etc) Posi. Trans is built pretty strong but not bulletproof.

U joints

There is a HD (sealed type) Spicer piece that is non lubricated ie. no grease fittings and lube passages and is therefore SUPPOSED to be STRONGER ... can't find p/n now.

I would change them

I just broke my rear joint this Sunday. Was going WOT at over 100mph when it snapped.

Messed up the rear floor boards on the passenger side. I suppose it could have been bad from the factory (car has 28k on it) but how would I know.

I was going 65 when I nailed the gas so I don't know if that is worse than a hard launch but I doubt it. Boost was about 20psi or so, maybe higher as I was running Alky.

I am replaceing the DS with a stocker but getting HD U-joints.
