Do Regals have interior or exterior snaprings on the universal. Went to buy one yesterday, and didn't know  . Is it different between the 231 and 307, or is it a standard for all Regals. Thanks for helping a beginner.

The originals were kept together with an adhesive that I melted with a torch.

I used a Neapco unit that I bought at PepBoys that was at one time made by Brute Force and had the part number
2-3011BF. Press fit into yokes, external snap ring, no zirc fitting, and lifetime warranty.

The Pepboy part number was once upon a time listed with all the other parts at gnttype.org, but it is not there anymore.

If you go to the trouble of replacing it you need to consider getting one w/a grease fitting.

Do not get the ones w/ the grease fitting. If you plan to put more horsepower in the car you may break a greasable unit. They are drilled to accept grease which makes them weaker. if you car is just going to be stock then you might want the greasables. And also my stock ones lasted 120k and they were non greasable and were good when i removed them for heavy duty new joints.

I got HD greasable ones with the grease fitting in one of the roller bearing caps. These don't compromise the u-joint as much as the ones with the fitting in the body.

You'll want the interior snap rings.

Well, I'm not touching the engine (307) for quite some time, so I'm not particularly worried about breaking a universal with a grease fitting...after all, I can't be pushing more than 150hp.

Does it matter whether it's internal or an external snapring? I see two different posts telling me two different things.

Also, how hard is this? I figure I should be able to figure it out, but i've heard that getting the cross in and out of the driveshaft/yoke is a PITA. Thanks for the ideas.
