What did you find was the best and easiest way to clean the outside of an uncoated SS downpipe?

Scotch brite pad and spray it with WD40 as your cleaning it.
 
I don't think I'd use any liquid of any type. I use just a scotch brite pad.
 
I didn't think so either but when i tried it does help clean off and keeps it from having that scratched look to it.
 
Tried steel wool in addition to "metal cleaner" on a rag, but believe to be lacking the elbow grease. :oldman:
The metal cleaner worked better than the steel wool. :eek:
Some on the net suggest 2000 grit sand paper, oven cleaner, metal polish, etc. Will try again this weekend . . . . . .
 
I'd try using Gliptone metal polishes the fine one blue in color as they have several different ones for different grades of metal. If that doesn't work than the fine steel wool sounds like it would work well.
 
Do you have a small angle grinder? Go grab one of these wheels. Ace has them. I believe Home depot has them as well. This will make childs play out of it.
