Just a FYI. I have had so many noises that seem to originate from the firewall or under my dashboard. I found the biggest one of all and the most annoying
I did the motor mounts, tightened bolts, vaselined the hood stops, etc.
Well........It was the transmission dipstick hitting against the coil pack. I just stuck my head under the hood and listened. My car idles quietly now that I put some rubber hose around the stick (not a Freudian Slip) and it silenced the metal to metal contact. I am very pleased now with my "quiet" car. Hope this helps someone out there.
