I'm still betting on oil getting into the intake...actually, there's 2 ways this can happen--first is the oil seal on the turbo as mentioned before, and second--if your breather vent tube is still connected from the oil fill tube to the intake tube next to the TB, you could be sucking oil in from there...BuickfromHell

Hey Guys,
It has been several months since my smoking incident, i've followed the advice from BuickfromHell and it seemed to have solved my problem, my car hasn't smoked since then, haven't done any modification to my car, but recently i've noticed that its smoking again, same incident, only smokes alittle once in awhile, only when i'm at a stop light or stop sign, color of the smoke looks to be grayish-white, smells synthetic like to me, but the car runs fine any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM IN MY GRAND NATIONAL NEVER DID FIGURE IT OUT ,THEN ONE DAY IT JUST QUIT. BUT IT ONLY SMOKE ONCE IN A WHILE JUST WHEN IWAS SITTING AT A STOPLIGHT,IF I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL IT WOULD QUIT.

rich condition? Maybe a fouled plug? I am leaning toward oil throught the turbo...Is your turbo stock? Rebuilt? I always found out the hard way that my two stock turbo's were bad and my ebay stock up-pipes and one down-pipe were all bad...then white smoke was coming out of the up-pipe....that was bad! I found out both turbo's were bad...hence the smoke out the DP and tail pipe...Then I found out the crank was wiped out, every journal was scored....Only way to tell was to drop the pan, pull a couple rod caps, found out those were bad...pulled the motor, everything was bad!!!! I hated it!!! Worse news I could ever get...5 years ago!!!

Anyway, if you got the time, pull the throttlebody off and check the turbo...see if there is any shaft play...If there is, you know where to start! If not...I would consider checking into the bottom end...If you had detonation real bad at one time, or knocking real bad but it went away, or never really went away, then you def have big probs....

A little investigating will go a long way... If you drop the oil-pan, make sure you get a new pan gasket (kenne Bell cork), and make sure you clean the oil pickup tube real good....chekc for anything in the pan...use a magnet and drag it though the pan to see if anything get's pucked up that is bigger than like...ummm a pencil point.

good luck!

John

I'm assuming you've already done away with the pcv system? Could be the turbo. You can pull the MAF pipe off and open the throttle to see if there's any visual signs of oil leaking. It could also be leaking on the exhaust side of the turbo. When mine had an exhaust side leak, it smoked more under boost and less at idle. On the intake side, it smoked more at idle. Don't know if this always holds true but that's what mine did.

Well at this point everything is still stock, except for upgrading my fuel pump, 2.5" cat-back exhaust, adj. fuel press., and gauges to go with it, i opened up the TB to see if there was any oil on the fins, but it looked clean to me, didn't get a chance to pull plugs during the week, but will do it over the weekend. If the turbo is going bad, i always thought that it would be smoking all the time especially on acceleration? Also, what do you mean by doing away with the pcv system, what would that do? just curious
Thanks guy for you info

I had trouble with my 85GN due to the stock oil fill tube and cap. The nipple in the oil fill cap became clogged which did not allow the engine to breathe. This is a pressurized block situation.. Three turbos later Limit Engineering figured it out. A $ 40 new oil fill tube solved my problem. Make sure the engine can breathe. Brad

Hey Brad,
Did you replace it with a stock(original) filler tube or did you get a aftermarket one, all i did was take off the rubber hose connecting both filler tube and MAF pipe, capped both of them off (as per BuickfromHell) advised me to try and it never smoked since, but since you also stated about the engine needed to breath more, might be it, a friend did mention to me about something like that, but it would hurt try and see :) Thanks Guys

You shouldn't cap that off. The PCV valve is the only thing left to relieve crankcase pressure and I doubt it can keep up. You need a breather where the filler tube went.

I would uncap those hoses asap. You are pressurizing your block which prevents the oil in the turbo from draining into the lifter valley. The situation ruins the seals on the turbo. I bought a oil fill/ breather from Poston because I do not have the stock air intake. Your situation is easy to remedy. Get rid of the stock oil fill tube cap and by a KN one whick also doubles as a breather. Brad

Thanks Guys,
Geeeeeeez i feel stupid :( hope its not too late, but i've already ordered one, and should be getting it soon, at the sametime i'll i'll upcap it for now, thanks for your advice guys
