Fast forward a week or so from the previous post and I did the install into the carpeted area of the door panels. They fit perfectly with the cones fitting exactly in front of the window motor. If I had used regular 4x6's the woofer would have been to far back. Here are the speakers that I used :

Got a great deal on a new in the box pair for $76 ? from a guy on ebay.
Made the grills myself and I think they look and sound great. They don't stick into the passenger compartment, they blend in with the black carpet and I think they look almost factory. Here's a couple of pics. the one of the passenger side looks like it doesn't have a grill but that is just because of the flash from the camera taken in my dark garage.
