Hi All,

Getting ready to install a new TV (detent) cable on son's '85 MCSS with 200R4 tranny.

  • What is supposed to seal the cable "plastic thingy" against the case where it passes through the tranny case?
  • Where do the "shims" that increase line pressure go (I'm ASSuming under the fore-mentioned "plastic thingy" end between the "thingy" and case) and what do I want to use for shims?
  • Do I need shims?

TIA!

Thingies??

Russ, there's a rubber grommet that goes into the hole first, then the cable has a hole in the end of the rod that hooks on the "Z" hook in the trans.[A pair of small needle nose pliers works to hold the hook up to where you can hook it up.] Hook it together, then have someone pull the cable up towards the TB, while you are holding the cable housing. This will pull the hook up into the cable housing and prevent it from unhooking.
Slide the cable housing down into the grommet. BE CAREFUL you DO NOT push the grommet into the case!! Install the little bolt to hold the cable in place. 10MM wrench, I think.

There are NO shims for adj the PSI..
Hook the cable to the TB and push the "D" shaped button on the cable in and push the cable sheath towards the firewall til it stops. Get in the car and mash the pedal. The cable will ratchet out when you get to WOT.. That's the "factory" way. My way, is grab the TB lever after you have pushed the sheath in and pull the throttle all the way open. That way you are getting full throttle. You may have to adjust again,, maybe a click or 2 either way for a good shift feel.
SET THE TPS after you have done this.

HAVE FUN!!

:D :D :D

Thanks, Chuck!

We'll be doing it tomorrow morning... I could have sworn Bruce was mentioning something about shimming the TV cable for higher? line pressure throughout the range. My cable didn't come with a seal (grommet), so I'm hoping to use the old one.

Later,

The shimming allows for more tv cable adjustment if you need it, not a necessity if cable works fine.

Shimz??

Anyone from the "land of fruits and nutz" is liable to be smoking a joint when he tells you something!!!!
Bruce has had sunstroke from being at the drags too long!!

He's right!!:D :D :D J/K!!

Wow! If I had to charge for this job, it'd be at least $300 bux! What a PIA, not to mention I *forgot* the seal and pi$$ed about 2 qts of fluid on the garage floor and had to redo everything.

BRUCE - thanks for getting me the seal info, I found one right down the road about 4 miles! The old seal was indeed still on the TV cable - it was hiding  looking like part of the plastic sheath.

Right ear??
