are the crankshaft, connecting rods and block any diffrent in a 83 turbo motor than a regular N/A 3.8?

also, im rebuilding my motor and want performance, i was suggested that i get a decent cam designed for the 87 fi turbos. what cam would you suggest and also what can i do to up the boost of the turbo? im wanting to run high psi #s like 15-20

how far can i go with my stock turbo and quadrajunk?

Rods and block are the same. Turbo cranks have rolled journal fillets, but a NA crank can handle what a Carb/Turbo can dish out.

Shorting the wastegate actuator's rod will get boost from 9 to ~12. You'll need an adjustable relief valve (aka back pressure regulator, aka manaul boost controller) to go higher.

I like this idea also:

To run any boost above factory, you'll need to manage knock somehow. I'd start with a Casper's 10-led gauge, then use either a MSD 6 BTM (boost referenced timing retard) or alcohol injection (windsheild washer pump spraying before the carb).

I'm gone 14.7 on a stock turbo, carb, exhaust and motor. I figure low 14's are some tuning away. The quadrajet is a great carb IMO.
