Putting an extra vacuum reservoir like the big-cammed NA cars used to use would help too...

Geez you guys sure like to jump all over people that like the PM system. Now I know how TurboDave feels all the time ;)

The point I was trying to make is that once you've lost your vacuum charge it is very difficult to hold boost no matter what kind of rear brakes you have.

I personally like to start building boost to 8lbs when prestaged. The PM allows me to creep forward to the staged lights while bringing the car up to 15psi if I desire. This is the way I like to race and I could not do this with the vacuum brakes as I would lose the charge and creep through. From what I've gathered though it is because I'm a bad driver, didn't have the brakes set up right, and had the wrong torque converter. All I know is I fixed the PM and reinstalled it and with no other changes I was now able to hold 15lbs.

Jim gives instructions how to get around this problem (thanks for the info cause I'll have to race my TTA this way) but personally I'd rather be concentrating on the tree than reving the motor, playing with the gears, and bringing the boost up on the staged light.

Anyways boys it's been fun debating brake systems but I've got some beers to drink :D Have a good weekend.

PS please don't hate me cause I like my PM ;)

hey, whatever works! you gotta be building a lot of heat in the tranny/converter if you stage at 8 lbs tho.....what if the other guy decides to wait? or maybe you wait for him?

By all means use the PM. I lost mine when I needed it most. Coming to a busy intersection. I know they say you got 10 or so applications, and I dont know WTf happened, but I didnt. I went to vacuum brakes 1) because it will never be obsolete, 2) parts will always be cheap/easy to find 3) If I lose power assist I will have manual brakes (roughly) and 4) I personally like the feel of them vs the "too easy" and "kinda spongy" PM brakes.

Hey, to each his own.

My point was like Woody, if you cant build boost, something isnt right with the combo. Too tight a converter etc. It can be done, and as woody, I guess I could be considdered a clutz, so if I can do it, anyone can too :)
