I searched..couldnt find the answer..

What are the differences between the BRF and a regular valvebody?

Thanks..

Julio

ps..doing a friend a favor
;)

So all 2004r valvebodies are BRF valvebodies if you swap the springs??

Anyone??

No, Swapping springs will not get you there...

The shift valves, TV valves, etc.. actually have different land sizes.

Also the governor is different.

It would be very difficult to convert a generic VB to a GN VB.

It would require machining, sleeving, producing the spool valves, etc..

Lots of work,
at about $400 a piece for a GN type VB that's cheap... compared to what the machining would cost.

I am guessing that guys like Bruce and Chris have researched this and developed ways to use a generic VB with great success but they STILL recommend the good VB's.

Probably a reason...

I have a BRF VB, a BQ, and a generic. I disassembled the BQ and compared it in detail to the generic.

I have yet to do the BRF, but will soon, as I will be installing it on my trans, however it should be very similar to the BQ.

The BQ code valve body is a 84 or 85 GN valve body.
The calibration is supposed to be VERY similar to a BRF from an '86 and '87 GN.

I will know of any differences in the next week or so.

I have to dissect the BRF VB to clean it and install the shift kit pieces and will measure everything at that time and compare to my notes on the other two VB's.

Jim,
I haven't torn into the BRF yet (this week though...).
I completely disassembled a BQ 84-85 GN VB) and compared it to an 84 Buick BY code valve body.
