Yeah...probably a dumb question, but I just want to know what is working for everybody to stop the crappy oil leak from the covers.

I'm picking up new felpros this morning and I need to know how tight to run down the bolts. I have the aluminum GN1 valve covers....if that makes a difference. Also, I read that many people are using a small bead of silicone to hold the gasket to the valve cover before bolting it on, so I'll pick up a tube of black rtv...and yes, I'll only put it on the valve cover.

No more cork for me.....this is getting ridiculous!!! Brand new engine and it has oil all down the sides...probably from over tightening :(

Any help will be appreciated...

Thanks,

Mark

sorry for this but that is 44 inch pounds. I use the right stuff comes in a can and is excellent on this. Use it on the valvecover side only. Hope this helps.

When I installed the Buick Motorsports valve covers, I used cork and a little gasket maker to hold them to the covers. Most of the time, the covers leak from the back because, on the pass side, that last bolt is a little hard to get to. I did, however, put a very tiny amount of some gasket maker on the side of the gasket that mates with the head because I didn't want to go through the installation only to find more leaks. No more leaks for me.

Now, if my rear main didn't leak, I'd be golden :D

I can't see the harm in using a little gasket cement - just don't go crazy with it. If you have to change the gaskets in the future, then you just have to bust out the putty knife. But honestly, how often are you going to have the covers off?
