I'm changing valve springs (86 TR w/125k) and have one cylinder bank done. I'm using the compressed-air method. I noticed some air leakage apparently around the exhaust valve seats and out the exhaust ports on cylinders 1 and 5. Is this something to be concerned about? A recent compression check was good. Also, the leaking seemed to be reduced after I seated the keepers by tapping the valve stems.

Also, I had planned on replacing the valve guide seals with new ones from Poston's. But these were so obviously inferior that I left the stock seals in place. The Poston's seals didn't grip the valve guide at all it looked like they would move up and down with the valve. Very disappointing.

Felpro Viton seals should be available cheaply and locally at a "real" parts store. I would get some before doing the other bank.

The leaks prolly aren't an issue but perhaps a top engine clean is in order. Maybe carbon related?

Thanks for the reply. The leakage could definitely be carbon related as I could see a lot of buildup in there. A top engine clean is on my to-do list.
