Anybody heard if these will be coming our way eventually? I was reading a Japanese magazine at work today, actually was having one of the guys translate it for me but there was an article about HKS working on adapting VG turbo's for gas engines. It was about a year old but they said to expect something in around 3 years.

Also the next Porcshe 911 will be using a ball bearing vg turbo. Seems the technology to get the vg to withstand the higher temps of gas motors is coming around.

aerocharger used to make them for gas cars in the mid-late 90's, but they appear to be out of business

I remember Dodge having this in one of their cars back in the 80's so it's not new technology but hopefully better.

I dont know much about the dodge ones but remember hearing they didnt work well, these newer vg turbo's like whats used on the 6.0 powerstroke are impressive. I work on Ford powerstrokes and it's amazing how fast the turbo's spool on the new 6.0's vs the 7.3's and the 6.0 makes more power.

My new Duramax has one,It works great

We rebuild and work on many of the Variable style turbos from GT to Holset to ...etc. So far most of the units are nothing great. Reliability under extreme conditions is not great at all. A properly matched standard unit is still the best unit for your setup.
