VDO tachometer

Just installed a 2 1/16 VDO tach. Tach is not working. Got power and ground to it and tach signal wire is plugged in to Green tach signal plug on drivers side just behind alt. Tach is not working when running, but when cranking engine tach pulses. Rechecked dip switches and they are set as specified by VDO. Any one have this problem? Is the green factory connector the right spot to wire in? Any help is needed. Thanks!!!

Would you by any chance have the Type II coils?

No, I don't think so. It's a stock setup.
