Very high idle speed

When the car is stared it idles very high about 2800 RPM. After driving to normal operating temp. the idle stays the same. TPS set to .40 volts. any one have any ideas. THANKS FOR ANY HELP. tutjr

Spray some either around your vaccum lines while it is running. You'll find it if its there.

Check for vaccum leaks. If that doesnt pan out the IAC may have gone bad with the pintle in the open position.

I would read the procedure for setting your IAC and the information above this article about setting your TPS.

If you adjust one of these (TPS or IAC) you must make a corresponding adjustment to the other.

Make a gasket for the vacuum block that blocks everything and see if that changes idle RPM. Adjust IAC and TPS correctly first though, it may help you.

What are your BLM's at idle?

Your idle RPM is controlled by the chip, assuming TPS, IAC, vacuum leaks are not a factor.

still have not solved the high idle. Have not found any vaccum leaks. I forgot to note that I have had this problem in the past. I would start the car and have the very high idle condition drive the car a few miles turn the engine off. when engine was restarted no high idle. I have also had periods when the high idle problem would not happen at all . the high idle is consistant now and has not changed

Do you have a scantool like a scanmaster?

If not.. start throwing parts at the car till its fixed. I would start with a new AC Delco IAC motor.

I was working on my high idle problem today.I was having trouble geting my diagnostic software working. I had my lap top connected to the ALDL port with the car running and still idling at 2800 RMP's and having no luck with the software and the engine idled down to 700 RPM's and stayed there> I tured off the ignition and restarted and it idled atr 700 rpm's. I tured the engine off and restarted several times and still 700 rpm's drove to gas station filled up with 93 started back up at 700 rpms. I am completely confussed. ANY IDEAS. Thanks for any help
