Very new to this need help

I have a 3.8l turbo motor out of a regal i believe. Is there a good way to tell what it came out of? Exactly what year it is? It has a turbo specific distributor on it. I cant find anything information on it. If anybody has any knowledge about these motors i would greatly appreciate some pointers and some info. I am looking to rebuild it and put it in a s10

Might want to really really think about the S10 idea, it can be a pain to fit the engine in and will require a decent amount of fab not a drop in deal at all. Not a bad idea would be to retro-fit the turbo system to a 4.3 or chevy 3.8. Those fit in easily. Just a thought....

Easy ways to identyfy the motor would be to look at the A/R of the turbin housing, knock sensor loacation, weather the intake is cast or aluminum, 2 or 4 bbl turbo carb, large or small cast iro. Manifolds... Etc etc... A pic for us will really help!
