I've read some bad things about these converters on the board and was wondering how bad they really are. I have a chance to buy a 9.5 3000 l/u with 1500 miles on it for $400. Am I going to end up just buying another or do they hold up at all? The car is mostly street driven with an occasional trip to the track and your usual street races. I need a converter really bad and just don't want to end up buying two.

I have the 5 disc 3500 stall and it has tore up 3 times now. I'm going to send it back to Precision Industries again to be rebuilt when I get it back it will be for sale for what ever I can get for it.I just ordered the 9/11 from CK Performance. A lot of people are running the Vigilante with no problems. I'm wondering if the old 7 disc holds up better than the newer 5 disc. Precision is real good with there warranty though.

maybe this is why mine is tearing up, If the car is hooking I'll do about a 10lb. launch with 60ft being in the 1.47 range. Although I was under the impression that the converter should take this kind of abuse.

I read your other thread about that and started to get worried. Because thats not the first time I've heard bad things about these converters. I hope I don't need to use the warranty. Its a daily driver and I can't afford to keep having the tranny pulled once a month. Not to mention I have nothing else to drive.

Well like said before I might be too hard on it, but I have had other converters before for the, TH 350, 700R4, TH400. And I was extremely hard on these with no failures. My stock D5 I put through hell from not being enough stall and it still is OK! I know that I’m putting my foot in my mouth from ever being able to sell the vigilante, but I rather be honest than to have some one go through the same grief that I have gone through.

Be as honest as you can. Its appreciated. I've also beat the crap out of my D-5 and its still working fine. I just need all the info I can get.
