I was wondering if the VIN number is located anywhere on the motor itself or the tranny? Thanks

The last

few #'s of the vehicles vin are stamped into the trans case on the pan rail.

Ok, so I guess theres no way of doing a Carfax check on this motor/tranny without the VIN # from the car itself?

If I remember correctly, it is the last 8 digits of the VIN stamped into the engine and trans case.

Yea, but is it possible to get the vihicle's history with just those last 8 digits?

Assuming a 1987 TurboBuick vehicle you could easily fill in the rest of the digits to do a carfax type search from those last 6 numbers.

I think two VIN searches would cover it, one for Limited one for GN and T's.

Decoding the VIN numbers might be over on gnttype.org or in one of Kirbans books for sure.
