Both you gentlemen may well be correct but for some unknown reason the 1987 factory manual ( far from infallible ) notes the 5th character --- J=Regal ---M=Regal Limited --- D=Grand National. I bought a Limited new in 87 and it has an M.

Documented Gn

I have a Documented GN all The paper work, all the tags, even Broadcast sheets with matching vin number. My 5th Digit is J. Manual is wrong!

The Grand National package was simply a color and trim concept. Trim combinations do not appear in the VIN....only on an RPO sheet. You couldn't even tell if a car is a GNX by it's VIN, as they pulled regular production GN's off the line to be modded by ASC McLaren as orders came in. Not to offend the WE2 option crowd, (as I own one) but a regular Turbo Regal, T-Type, Turbo Limited, or Turbo T is much rarer than a GN. '87 and '86 GN number in the 26,000 range (hardly rare)........while '86-'87 "T's" number 9000'ish (still hardly rare.....however, more rare) WH1 1986 T's are the rarest at 400'ish produced........rarer than the GNX. So either way with a 7 (or a 9 for the '84-'85) as the eighth number you have a piece of automotive history......... you have a keeper. :)

Sorry, I meant to say Turbo Buick. I'm just so use to just telling people I have a GN, since most don't know what a Turbo-T is. :)

All 87 Gn's had the Badge, posi 342, and the steering wheel emblem.

Not all GN's came from the factory with a posi...... :)

heck this guy should get the kirban guide to buying a turbo regal manual

Are You Guys Dense??

Hey Guys, instead of rehashing misinformation just refer back to post #8(mine) of this thread. Its a lot easier and is a sure fire way to tell what you have or how it rolled off the assembly line anyway. I'm not claiming to be Mr. Now-it-all here but from my experience, unless you are the original owner and personally walked your car down the assembly line than who knows what happened to your car and how it got that way.
