VSS buffer

I'm replacing the Elco dash with one from a T type. I need the VSS buffer. I'm new to this, but my understanding is the VSS is a necessary input to the ECM. I have the underhood and underdash harnesses from a GN, and as noted above a T type dash. Are they year/model specific? I'd rather go to the salvage yard if it's an option. Turbofish, do you read the hybrid forum?
