VSS converter to Powerlogger mph reading.

I posted this in the scan tech area but want to make sure I have it hooked up right. All you have to do to get a speed signal is run the output of the VSS converter to the brown "ECM" to get the signal correct? The speedo works and no code 24 but the PL and SM show 0 mph. Anyone else had this issue?

With the car running it shows 9.4 volts coming off the Casper VSS converter signal wire to the brown ECM signal wire. I have a signal but can't figure out why the PL is not reading it?

On the dead end sender you showed I soldered 2 wires off of that white signal lead. 1 to the speedometer and 1 to the VSS converter to go to the brown wire ECM, I followed one of the other board members builds of the dash and that is what he did. The speedometer works, needs to be calibrated but works. Could it still be pinned wrong and the speedometer work?

The speedo gets it's signal direct from the vss while the ecm gets the translated signal from the vss converter. So it is possible for the speedo to work and not have signal to ecm.

The white wire sends the signal from the vss to the speedo and the vss converter module.

The brown wire from the vss module ties to the ecm vss input. A10 brown wire. That sends the signal to the ecm and should be the only wire connected to that.

Right, thats how its set up. I plan on calling Casper on Mon to see how i can test my signal wire and make sure it is working properly. I also need to check on how to check the VSS converter to make sure it is sending out the proper signal to the ECM. Its sending some kind of signal cause when i disconnect the signal wire from the VSS converter i get the code 24.

Are you trying to measure the signal wire out of the converter with just a volt meter? because that is not a DC voltage, it a pulsed signal.

It has an ohm meter as well. I was using a volt test to see if there was a connection from the source to the converter, but i dont know how or what to use to see the actual signal. I plan on removing the speedometer and using it to test the signal before it goes into the VSS converter. If it does have a signal ( im guessing it will) i know it is narrowed to the VSS converter. We'll see what Casper says tomorrow, but im open to any ideas. Thx

Ok, i saw something i didn't notice before in the VSS Converter instructions. There is a dwell screw for adjusting the signal. It is suppose to be set for the 2 pulse per rotation but it says if there is no signal adjust the screw 1/2 to 3/4 turn either direction. I'll try that tomorrow and report back.

Called Caspers, told them what it was doing. He thought it was strange as well about not reading the mph but not setting off the code 24. He said send it back, he would check and send out the same day. If it is pinned wrong they would fix at no charge! A+++ for Caspers customer service. I checked the signal wire as he told me how, the hot and the ground are both good. It has to be that converter...I hope. Will post when I get it back.

Just got off the phone with John from Caspers. The VSS converter was bad, he put it on the test bench and the signal was messed up. New one should be going out tomorrow and it SHOULD fix the issue

New VSS converter is in. MPH is back on the Scanmaster and Powerlogger. Can say enough about the great customer service from Caspers
