I have a 82 regal with a 87 power train, what part can i use to pick up the signal from the transmission for the ECM to see, any input would be great thank's.

i never looked at the 82 speedo , it may support a vss optic pickup
if not you would need a 2 pulse per revolution inline sender in the speedo cable and feed it to the vss buffer (cut the optic end off)
the senders were commonly used on the AVC gnx style dash installs but they are practically non existant today
casperelectronics had a vss converter that would allow a newer easier to find sender that had a higher pulse (16 pulse per rev) to work with the ecm .. http://www.casperselectronics.com/store2/product_info.php?products_id=632

On a 82 i have a cable from that dash to a box on the drivers inside fender then from the box another cable running to the back of the transmission.

That is the cruise control for the 82. There is a VSS just like the later models.

So there is one of those little green boxs in the back of the dash? or do i have to bi the vss signal and splice it in.

As long as it is still relatively stock the unit should still be in place. Have you ever plugged in a scanner to the ALDL port and see if it is giving a speed reading?

If your '82 had/has an ECM then it most likely has the VSS buffer. If it is a Canadian car then odds are there wasn't an ECM. The emissions standards were lower there then in the US.

Either way the cutout to mount the VSS optical head is most likely present behind the cluster. I have a '85 or '87 cluster here, I'll see about getting a picture, just need to find it.

If it doesn't have the cut out then I'd place an inline VSS where it taps into the cruise control under the hood. Jag's that Run carries the 2K PPM optical/digital inline VSS.

Steve i will have to look if i have a ALDL port, i know my scanner is wired direct.

So i went out and look and it doe's not have a ALDL port i took some pics of the cruise control and cables are hook up. Now a few years ago i look in to this same thing and i was told to purchase the cable with some wires on it you will see in the pic and a little black box with plug end on it . one was purchase with Caspers and the other was from Summit, The tranny shop spent three days on it and couldn't make it work. In the pic there is wires attach to the piece that i purchase. something easy r would be fantastic i not good with wiring thank's

These pics are of the inline VSS. I don't know how they wire in. Maybe pacecarta can shed some light. I know they were mainly used when people changed to GNX sytle guages (meaning mechanical speedo)

Is there any thing i can use were the speed o cable goes into the back of the tranny with some wires i can run to power and the ECM and it do the same thing

with a vss buffer and the sender you have (if its a 2pulse) , cut the optic off end the buffer
wire the sender to the buffer wires ..green + black , tape off the red)
supply 12v and ground to buffer , run output from buffer to A10 at ecm

if your sender is a higher pulse then you need the casper converter and the instructions for wiring that up are in the link i provided

now if you have a brf /bq/ttftrans and 12v through a tcc brake switch run to the tcc solenoid in trans and your 3rd and fourth gear switches are inplace and working your trans will have lockup under ecm control

youre asking a tranny shop to fix vss which is not a trans related issue..? its electrical . three days musta been a whole lot of head scratching and no homework or knowledge . its not that complicated
have you looked at your speedo to see if the optic will install there ?
if it does thats where the sqaure end goes , forget about the adapter under the hood , just provide the vss box with 12v and ground and youll have a signal for the ecm
if your speedo wont accept the optic pickup then you will need to wire the sender under the hood to the vss by cutting off the square optic end and wiiring to the sender
thats only half of having function ecm controlled lockup , you need to have the rest of the tcc system in place

you have the diagrams now ..im out can't do anymore for you
