I have a low mile 87 GN with minor bolt-ons: cat back exhaust system, 3inch down pipe, ported exhaust housing, thumbwheel chip(I know its old), cold air intake, rjc powerplate, airbag, wider rear tires(not drag radials though). I have an alchy system that I havent installed yet as well as a shift kit. Anyways, I'm kind of bored with the performance of the car. I want it FASTER! I want to upgrade the turbo...but keep the stock torque converter. What is the best turbo for this? I want to get into the 11's when I'm done. And yes, I'm planning on a new chip, injectors, factory mount intercooler. What times can I expect with the upgrades and alchy? Thanks.

You can get Into the 11's with the stocker. If you are dead set on swapping a 44 or 49 are probably your only choice that will work with the stock converter, but a better converter is still what you need to get full potential out of either of those turbos.

I have used the Precision 6262 DBB Billet wheel unit with a stock convertor. With an RJC valve and TurboTweak chip is actually spooled
pretty well.Ran 11.50s as with a stock convertor you just cant get it up on much more than 5#s at the line, and you will need good rear brakes to
to get it there also.
hope this helps

If it were my I'd buy an older used turbo and spend the extra cash on a converter. You can prob pick up a used te60 for a good price

First, is there anything wrong with your turbo? If not stick with the stock turbo for now.I would first upgrade your fuel system (fuel pump, hot wire kit, adjustable fuel pump regulator.)You should definitely buy a ScanMaster and learn how to used it to monitor engines vitals, with out it you can damage your motor, also a oil pressure gauge to monitor oil pressure. Then purchase a Turbo Tweak chip and injector combo from Eric, a adjustable actuator to adjust boost and a boost gauge, get your car to run well at 15-17lbs of boost with no "Knock".Once you achieve this you can buy a Dutt neck stock intercooler, you will gain up to 2-3lbs more boost with this neck and re tune. Then install Alky kit and turn up the boost to 19-21lbs,(the max boost for the stock turbo is about 22lbs) and remember tune for no Knock. With our cars it is better to add one performance part at a time to see if you are making more power or not.Its a slow process but you will be happier in the end and wont waste much money in the process.Remember its not one performance part that makes these cars fast, its the whole combo (turbo, heads, intercooler, torque converter,ect...), "bigger isn't always better".Good luck in your quest for speed,it's addicting

No, there's nothing wrong w/ my stock turbo.

I also forgot to mention that I do have a Scanmaster, hotwire kit, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, boost gauge, adjustable actuator....probably more little stuff I'm forgetting

Thatnks for the input. Keep the ideas coming

install that shift kit and alky kit and max out what you have. 22-25lbs and some timing makes for a fun car on the street. Get a manual boost controller also. THis will make boost adjustments much easier and as an added bonus give you much faster spool and eliminate boost creep. I just used an el cheapo for 12 bucks. WOrks fine for now. Whats your entire list of mods and parts awaiting to be installed?

I got a TE60 50# inj and some turbo tweak chips for alky pm if interested
