Does a T04S (4"in/2.5"out) cover take a special wastegate actuator? I bought a new one instead of using my cobbled up old one. I can only get one hole to align up with the holes on the housing so that wastegate can be used. Trying to use two of the holes locates it to far forward or behind were it needs to be. Can it be used with only one bolt?

You need to call Precision Turbo and get the correct adaptor bracket and hardware.
# 219-996-7832 ask for either Pete or Jim. They should know what you're talking about.
Tell them you have a Garrett TO4S compressor cover equipped turbo, and you need the special billet aluminum wastegate adaptor bracket and the special hardware that goes with it. It is a special bracket, that to my knowledge, PTE is the only company in the world who makes it, that will properly bolt up the stock Buick style wastegate actuators when using the Garrett TO4S compressor cover. There might be other companies that make similar hardware, but I have yet to see it on a Garrett TO4S compressor cover. It has to do with the bolt patterns being different on all the compressor covers.

This bracket will only work with the compressor cover clocked in the stock orientation. Meaning, the compressor discharge points straight and level towards the front of the car. This bracket will not work very well on applications that have intercooler pipes that force the compressor cover to be clocked at a 45* angle. No workie too good. But works fine for a stock location IC or an IC pipe that has the 90* bend in it, it will work.

It's very important that you get the correct hardware for this bracket, as it uses a recessed screw that will be covered by the actuator. And it will only go on one way. Here is a picture that you can just see the top of this adaptor bracket bolted in the correct position on a PT6776S turbo. It's just to the left of the vacume barb.

The stock wastegate actuator bolts on top of this adaptor bracket. So, first you bolt this bracket to the turbo, using the regular bolt on top and the special recessed bolt on bottom, then bolt the actuator to this bracket.
It can be a real PITA, but it will work.

I don't recommend running the actuator with only one bolt holding on, as the actuator will flop around when it starts moving under WOT.

Hey Doug,

on my GT6776e the waste gate actuator used one of the bolt holes and then was welded to one of the bracket's, came with one bolt that was a little longer...that's how it came from Full Throttle and works fine. You should be able to do the same with yours I would think.

you should be able to see it in the following pic's

Scott89TTA,
Your turbo has a Precision casted TO4E cover, which has a totally different bolt pattern and different backing plate clamps, than the TO4S compressor cover that he has. Trust me, the actuators are not compatible between the two style covers.
You don't have to have this bracket, if you have fabricating skills and don't mind making your own adaptor bracket. But their bracket takes all the guess work out of the equation.

The E cover equipped turbos that originate from PTE (Full Throttle and others) have stock wastegate actuators with the correct TO4E backing plate clamp welded to it in the correct spot, and already have the hole predrilled to make it a bolt on deal. Unfortunately, it's not that easy with the TO4S cover. Not trying to sound like a know-it-all or ruffle any feathers, just trying to help.

I know how frustrating it can be, trying to get things bolted up properly.
This special aluminum bracket was developed shortly after the PT6776S turbo first came out for the Buicks.
Hope this helps.

Patrick,

No problem...just sounded like it was the same deal as mine. I know Doug...he is a machinist and probably could make it if he needed to but like you said it's nice when all the guess work is done for you too

I just wish he would get that beast running again so we can see what it will do

Thanks for the info on the bracket Patrick. I will be ordering it soon. This will hopefully be my last turbo so I want it "right".

Thanks for the pics and help Scott. I made the last wastegate work on my last two turbos. As I get older I get tired of reinventing the wheel. :D I just don't feel like pulling the turbo back off the make it work. I know you know what I mean!!! You've seen Old Reliable. :D
