i need some input on what wastegate i should buy. i am going to buy the four bolt rjc flange for the exhaust off the turbo so i can build my own downpipe. i have a 1970 GS with a 87 gn motor in it so i have way more room in my engine bay than a gn.

im thinking about bypasing the turbo with an external wastegate. so what are your suggestions on externals.(make, size, price, ect.)

thanks, john

waste gate vacuum valve

I have found a 1981 Trans Am 301 turbo stored in a barn for the last 18 yrs and it has a seized waste gate vacuum vale i have tried everywhere to get one to make the care work but have had no luck is there anyone that could refer me to where i could buy this valve tks

Regarding the '81 TA, I don't think it exists. I had a call like this a few years ago. You would have to find it, good luck. Your other option is to lock it up and fab an external wastegate into the system. Please note, I say thins not knowing what the system looks like, so you be the judge of what will work/fit.

Regarding the wastegate in the '70 GS, a 38 mm may be too small. A nicely compact unit is the Turbosmart Hypergate (45 mm). It's about the same overall size as the 38 mm design and features v-band flanges which allow some flexability in design and installation. We just started carring this line and and they have been working out well. They retail for about $425. Other wastegates of this flow are much larger.

I have parts in stock to restore or rebuild your 301 turbo.

PM me for what you need.
