I'm not a New guy,but have some new guy questions. Does the stock wg actuator use vac or pressure? What does the wg solenoid due? (I know it regulates the boost) I 'm wondering the actual physical functioning of the solenoid. If a chip is setup for 20-25 pounds of boost do you have to adjust the wastegate rod to have theses boost settings or leave the rod at stock boost length and the chip modulates the power to solenoid to control flow to actuator?

Stock wg works on pressure.... Solenoid bleeds pressure OFF the actuator to allow for higher boost than the spring pressure inside the actuator (like 12-ish lbs on std. actuator). This is why running a hose straight from the turbo hsg. to the actuator results in ~12 lbs. boost. The chip will give the solenoid 100% duty cycle to bleed as much pressure as possible, for highest boost possible, given the (bleed) orifice size in the plastic 'y' fitting. If the chip is set for x amt. of boost, you must adjust the wg arm to achieve that setting, which really just changes the actuator spring preload, resulting in a given amt of boost at 100% wg solenoid duty cycle (bleed).

Hope that helps... :)
