I have a friend that wants me to look at his '87 GN. It won't idle properly..and has about 6-7 deg of knock retard..(per my DS) ... and after looking under the hood..... there are somethings not plumbed properly. Someone hooked one side of the wastegate solenoid to the "Y" going to the turbo/wastegate.... and the other port..... to the manifold vacuum/boost source that was once hooked to the charcoal vapor canister.... (now gone). What will the boost do if you hook vacuum/boost to the port on the wg solenoid that is supposed to be open to the atmosphere? I plan on hooking it up correctly... and hooking my autometer liquid filled boost gauge up to verify proper boost level... and verifying the "Y" is turned correctly and has the properly sized restrictor. I also plan on doing the IAC reset procedure someone mentioned on gnttype.org.... Hopefully this will get me closer to a solution.... Already checked TPS voltages..... they are good.... .45 closed....4.6 open......

What do you think?

That port on the solenoid needs to be vented. I'm not sure of it but I think that if it's plugged you will only get like 10psi with the stock actuator (not adjustable). I had mine plugged and I didn't get any problems with idle or knock. Just check how much boost he's running and if it's rich or lean. Do the iac though.
