Wastegate Solenoid Question w/pic

I have an 87 GN.

Is the wastegate solenoid located on the front of the passenger side valve cover? If so, can you tell me actually how it works and what the two connectors do that come out of it. Also, one of my connectors is not plugged or hooked to anything in particular? It's the connector nearest the intake. Am I missing something?

Thanks,

James

Copy and paste the following for a picture.. I would direct link, but Geocities does not allow that.

Well I was impatient and I searched the site and found that the wastegate solenoid port that is off on my car should contain a small foam filter. I guess I'll could probably make one after looking at the .75 cent piece. Let me know if you think I found the problem. I could use the reasurrance.

Thanks,

James

The port you mention is used for venting purposes. It should have the foam in place, however some if not most lose them (not on purpose) ;)

You found it, but that's not a problem. ;)

The solenoid bleeds off air, cotrolled by the ECM and chip. Thats all it does.

Air would normally be applied directly to the wastegate arm actuator which lifts the puck off the wastegate hole and lowers the boost.

Since the solenoid is bleeding some of this air away it takes longer to move the arm and the boost level rises.

More solenoid operation the higher the boost.

If you have a cracked or open line same thing. The actuator arm never sees the boost and won't move the puck off the hole and you will boost forever.... well almost. ;)
