well my water pump is leaking and whining pretty good.

i have searched for tips and did not find any. i have replaced water pumps on pontiac 400s and 455s but never on a buick. i am thinking its about the same (or close due to the timing cover). am i far off? i will remove the IC and clean it while i have it out. any other tips

thanks alot

You will have to remove the intercooler, like you said, clean it, and also obtain a new bypass hose, if you have over 100k miles, you may also want to change the timing chain and gear. It is a fairly simple job....as far as the wp is concerned...

the chain is done already no worries there. just ordered a new GMB water pump and by pass hose!

any tips on the sealing process? any tips and tricks to make it go any easier?

thanks

Dathan

Buy a new DELCO pump! I have had to change too many rebuilt Buick pumps or generic new pumps. P.I.A. I also use spray hi tack on the gasket and a small amount of super blue sealer on the threads of the long bolts that go into the water jacket.

Permatex makes a silicon gasket maker for water pump installations, use the silicon on the block and water pump and then the paper gasket between it. Guarantee no leaks. Buy a new pump. Spray WD40 or penetrating oil on the studs/bolts a day before and also use liquid teflon on the studs/bolts when installing the new water pump back.

I always put the water pump on dry with gasket provided and torque bolts to spec...never had any leaks...makes sure you use thread sealer on the longer bolts that go into the water jackets...
